Exploring relationships between found
and accessible objects, my multimedia sculptures and installations are inspired
by multicultural iconography. Through this exploration, discarded materials get
a second chance to be considered as treasured, socio-culturally charmed
possessions. I make art forms that also question the complexity of what society
perceives as art and junk, and offer viewers the opportunity to reconsider
their defined roles for the objects around them.
My unique vision is constructed through
play (collecting, assembling, deconstructing and re-purposing). I create visually compelling forms and
patterns that are reminiscent of various aspects of the Ghanaian traditional kente
cloth, royalty and cultural beliefs. In this way, my materials metaphorically
tie loose narratives into a unique whole through a clever juxtaposition and
interplay with each other.
